Grade 6

During their first year of Junior High, our 6th graders use all of their prior learned skills and academic knowledge to become responsible, independent learners. Organizational and study skills are stressed to help them achieve this goal throughout the various concepts in math, science, social studies, literature, and writing. Through a team-building field trip and other events, the 6th graders focus on building social and leadership skills. The students are invited to participate in school and parish volunteer opportunities, they have the daily responsibility of raising and lowering the school flag, and they are the leaders for Field Day at the end of the year. Students can also choose to join clubs and teams such as Quiz Bowl, Student Leadership Team, or choir. This year, students that showcase a strong grasp of concepts can qualify to be in a spelling, geography, or history bee.

Grade 7
-
In 7th Grade, students work to understand and improve their own academic talents and the talents of others. As they begin preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation through prayer, service, and liturgy, they understand how showing empathy and being accepting of others are important in both their Catholic and social lives. To help learn these values, the 7th graders participate in Holy Fire, Rosary Makers, a Seder Meal, and various service opportunities. Academically, students are challenged to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and self-discipline as they study math, science, United States and Illinois history, literature, and writing. Students in 7th Grade also review both the history of the United States and Illinois in the U.S .and Illinois Constitution tests.

Grade 8
-
Our 8th Grade students are prepared to transition from Saint Raymond School to high school as responsible, moral, and academically successful students and community members. As the student leaders of the school, they take on many roles throughout the year in which they showcase their talents and serve as role models for the younger students. They demonstrate school spirit and enthusiasm by leading and presenting activities such as school-wide service projects, school Masses, pep assemblies, the annual Matthew Lewnard Memorial 8th Grade vs. Faculty Volleyball Game, morning prayers and pledge, and all-school event days. The 8th graders also have opportunities throughout the year to develop strong social and spiritual bonds through field trips and retreats.
